How to build a powerful opening and a targeted closing that will get you the results you want.

After completing this module, you’ll be able to:

  • develop an attention-grabbing opening
  • structure an opening that develops rapport, establishes credibility and informs the audience what’s coming next
  • structure a closing that summarizes the key points and asks for the order
  • remain flexible for questions and be ready to restate the closing, if necessary
Intro video length:
30 secs

You’ve likely heard this phrase:  “Tell them what you’re going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you told them.” Habit 5 is about openings and closings. You need to have both.

There’s a way to structure both the opening and closing that will give you maximum impact. This is a habit that once learned, you’ll never forget.

Final Thoughts:

Before you move on, here are some important points to remember:

  • Your Opening and Closing should each take about 10 percent of the total presentation. So, if you’re scheduled for a 30 minute talk, take about 3 minutes for the opening and another 3 minutes for the closing
  • The Opening is a window on your presentation – a preview of what’s to come.
  • The Closing looks back in the mirror on your presentation. It must emphasize your key points.
  • Always have a second closing for use after a question period.
